ABOUT MUSEUM

The Museum of Toys and Automata of Verdú is a leisure centre unique in Europe and has become an authentic booster for the region’s cultural life, tourism and economy.

The equipment opened its doors in September 2004, in the little town of Verdú, 5 km away from Tàrrega. It was fruit of the private initiative of an art gallery owner, Manel Mayoral, and has already received more than 100.000 visitors.

The Museum is a thrilling place that evokes memories of the past. Located in an impressive building of 2,000 square metres, it exhibits more than 1.000 objects of various origins: tin toys, funfair attractions, dolls, pedal cars, table footballs, automata... To this day, the Museum has organized hundreds of guided visits for adult and student groups.

The Museum has financed great temporary exhibitions and family activities, has its own page in the Viquipèdia, translated into twelve languages, and is currently undergoing an extension project to build in a cafeteria-restaurant, an additional room for temporary exhibitions, and new room for didactic workshops.

The Museum of Toys and Automata of Verdú has become the first toy museum in the world to carry out didactic workshops for kids staying in hospital. More concretely, ithas organized workshops in two children’s hospitals: the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona, and the Hospital Arnau de Vilanova in Lleida.

At the same time, and thanks to the Museum’s “Factory of Exhibitions”, the national and international presence of the Museum grows steadily. The Factory has already produced 20 travelling exhibitions, many of which deserve special praise, like the temporary exhibitions devoted to football related objects, to funfair attractions, to advertisement, to the media...

The Museum of Toys and Automata of Verdú attracts today a third part of the tourists that visit cultural equipments in the region of L'Urgell. The Museum is the result of the joined efforts of a family team whose desire is to create unrepeatable moments, and it has grown to currently become one of the most important museums of the world in its field.
